Yoga is a practice that has changed my life in more ways than I can begin to explain.
Three years ago I didn’t even know the difference between down dog and a hot dog. At this point in my life, I was into my career as a farmer. My exercise came during the winter months in the form of powerlifting, which I have done since the age of 17
One day while performing a set of deadlifts I felt a pop in my back and pain shot down my leg. I fell to the ground and struggled to get up.
The pain persisted for months during the farming season. I couldn’t even lift my leg to tie my shoes.
In October of the same year, I went to the gym to lift some weights and noticed a yoga class on the schedule. I took the class hoping to gain some flexibility but found much more.
During the next few months, yoga began to change me little-by-little. I practiced six days a week and found not only flexibility in my body but calmness in my mind.
About six months after my first class I sampled different forms of yoga including Ashtanga, Kundalini, and power vinyasa at various studios. I am lucky to have had some of the best teachers in Sacramento. Each teacher added a unique experience and gave me a different perspective on yoga and life. Through what is a never-ending metamorphosis of physical ability and consciousness, I have found a healthier lifestyle.
So what does this all mean if you come to class? I hope to share the collective and still growing experiences of my own life so they may aid and guide your exploration. We'll work, share humor and find an appreciation for who you are and the yoga community that surrounds us.
